Nunca-Brazilian Street artist vs. Globalization
Brazilian street artist Nunca addresses the effect of globalization on a society caught between exporting its culture and embracing foreign products. His characters are frozen in a struggle to maintain the authentic culture of Brazil while adapting to an influx of foreign goods on the global market.

Egyptian Revolution 2011
"From day one of the Egyptian Revolution, the protesters’ message was loud and clear. On January 25th 2011, thousands of Egyptians from Cairo to Alexandria took bravery by the neck with a call for democracy, demanding that Hosni Mubarak’s regime be brought down. Saying no to fear and yes to freedom, these thousands ignited a fire of resistance that roared across the nation.
Despite the police brutality and violence of the regime’s playing strategy, millions of peaceful protestors continued to gather, voicing their grievances against the regime and claiming the vision for a better Egypt. The symbol head of tyranny could stand no more, leading to Mubarak’s resignation on February 11th.
Throughout the eighteen days and nights, Cairo was illuminated with an extraordinary sense of community and invigorated feelings of pride for the country. Expression rang out in Tahrir Square, where banners adorned high rise balconies, rock installations spelled out slogans on the pavement, and even a painting center was organized for individuals to extract their imaginations onto canvas. Given the vibrant culture that this ancient city is widely known for, the Revolution’s creativity should come as no surprise."-Hannah Cooper (Global Comment)
It seems as though the art form of graffiti has been reborn in Egypt. For centuries, graffiti has been deemed as vandalism in Egypt and punishable by law according to the provisions of the criminal code. This does not mean graffiti was not still present there though.
Examples of Art during this revolution:
"No to Stealing " "Overthrow Mubarak" "No to terrorizing the country"
"Freedom"
"Raise your head high, you’re Egyptian"

Elephant Topiary
You can find this herd of elephants at the Summer Palace in Bangkok, Thailand. The elephant, known for its intelligence, memory, and pleasant nature is the symbol of the nation. A Thai legend has it that a marriage is like an elephant-- the husband is the front legs, that choose the direction, the wife the back legs, providing the power ! (not sure if I agree with that). What do you think?

Excusado Printsystem is made up of four graphic designers: Stinkfish, Ratson, Deadbird and Satintcat
Question: How tough are the controls on graffiti in Colombia in general?
Over here, street art is not such a big phenomenon. Even though the city has lots of free spaces for graffiti and advertising, there is no rigorous control on this art form and its diverse manifestations. In this way, the street art scene is very peaceful. - Excusado Printsystem
I love this last piece. The colors just bring life to the drab looking wall.
Anyone have any personal interpretations of the images?

Coffee Wood House?
Deep in Orosi Valley is a home created completely out of coffee wood. Upon arrival, a cute little old man greeted me with a huge smile on his face. Unlike most of the natives I encountered, he surprisingly spoke perfect english. Inside his house he carves figures and other objects of out coffee wood and displays them to be purchased by visitors.
Hotel Lys
I stayed at a Hostel in Montezuma, Costa Rica called Hotel Lys. Throughout the hostel were hundreds of paintings. The owners have even launched a project known as Libre Universidad de Montezuma. This rapidly evolving concept is based on communication through artistic expression.
This painting was the door of my room.
Photo I took at sunrise of Hotel Lys
Cartago, Costa Rica
I spent 5 out of 8 days volunteering at an orphanage in Cartago. On my walk to the orphanage each day I passed by numerous painted walls. There are my favorites.

GIANT DOG TURD wreaks havoc at Swiss museum
A giant inflatable dog turd, yes, a giant dog turd by American artist Paul McCarthy was exhibited in the garden of the Paul Klee Center, a Swiss museum in Bern. In 2008, the giant turd actually blew away from the museum, brought down a power line and broke a greenhouse window before it landed again.
The art work titled "Complex Shit" is the size of a house. The wind carried it 200 yards from the museum before it fell back to Earth. The art work has a safety system which normally makes it deflate when there is a storm, but this did not work when it blew away.
